St Kitts meets Birmingham was a live academic brief set by the National Trust with one of my designs being chosen to feature in the Reimagined Exhibition that took place in Birmingham June – December 2023.

 

The brief was to create three wallpaper designs that were inspired by George Saunders. He was a St Kitts tailor based in Birmingham who worked in what’s now called the Back to Backs property. I took inspiration from the carnivals that he would have witnessed within St Kitts and Birmingham. I also used motifs and shapes that I saw in his tailoring shop. For motif generation I used I a range of  techniques: collage,  hand embroidery, stamping, digital drawing etc.
